Serenity by the Roller Coasters: Lighthouse Point's Unique Charm

Updated: Oct 12, 2023

Among the many RV resorts we've explored, Lighthouse Point, the Cedar Point Amusement Park RV campground, stands as a gem in our travels. Why do we feel this way? To begin with, the entrance to Cedar Point exudes excitement and grandeur. Situated on a slender peninsula jutting into Lake Erie, the journey down Cedar Point Road, flanked by the serene Sandusky Bay on the left, offers an awe-inspiring vista of colossal roller coasters and thrilling rides in the distance.

Lighthouse Point graces the far end of the peninsula, nestling harmoniously beside the amusement park. Here, you'll discover a range of campsites, from the standard to the coveted ultimate patio and lakefront sites. As the sun dips below the horizon, painting the sky in cotton candy hues and deep oranges, Lighthouse Point transforms into one of the most picturesque campgrounds we've ever had the pleasure of staying in. Notably, Travel and Leisure Magazine named it one of the nine most beautiful campgrounds in the U.S., as proudly stated on their website.

For each of our stays, we favored the ultimate patio sites, and on one occasion, we secured a lakefront site. A few times, we found ourselves right across from the roaring Magnum 200 XL roller coaster, as several sites do. You might assume this proximity would be bothersome, but the coaster's rhythmic rush became a soothing white noise, adding a unique charm to our stay.

These ultimate patio sites, unlike the standard ones, boast a lavish assortment of amenities. A firepit, encircled by inviting Adirondack chairs, a dining table, a swaying bench, and a grill offer the perfect setting for unforgettable evenings. All campsites come equipped with concrete pads, ensuring a secure foundation, and provide full hook-up options, with choices between pull-through and back-in sites.

Additionally, the resort boasts a well-stocked convenience store for your essentials, a refreshing swimming pool, and impeccably maintained restroom and laundry facilities. For those eager to stretch their legs, a lengthy concrete sidewalk grants easy beach access just steps away from the resort. With these amenities, the shops and restaurants in downtown Sandusky, and the Lake Erie Islands, it’s certainly not a necessity to venture into the Cedar Point amusement park if that’s not your vibe.

Additionally, for travelers without an RV, Lighthouse Point extends its offerings to cabins and cottages. While we've yet to experience these accommodations personally, we recommend Lighthouse Point to anyone seeking lodging in the area!
