We spent several weekends at The Surf Luxury RV Community in Palmetto, Florida, last winter. It was the resort's first winter open, and we had driven past it many times the previous winter while staying at their sister property, The Tides, just a few minutes away. We probably would have continued to stay at The Tides; however, they became a seasonal-only resort during the winter months, and we need short-term stays based on our travel style.
Our first impression of The Surf was that it was very much like The Tides: beautiful, well-manicured landscaping, but with fewer mature trees. The RV sites were large and paved, with many offering lakefront views. While our site was spacious, it was bare as the resort did not provide any site amenities, such as a picnic table. Since many people are seasonal guests, they end up furnishing their own sites. However, the resort offered numerous amenities that exceeded our expectations. From pickleball courts, a library, and a fitness center to a resort-style pool, food truck options, and a dog wash station with a pet-only laundry facility, they had it all. We enjoyed walking and jogging around the vast resort, lounging by the pool, and dining at the food trucks. During our stay, we had the chance to meet some nice people, and overall, the staff was very helpful.
From Palmetto, we had the pleasure of exploring nearby places like Anna Maria Island, Bradenton, and Sarasota. For dining recommendations, we suggest trying the Columbia Restaurant on St. Armands Circle, where you have to order their Original '1905' Salad. Another great spot is The Sandbar Restaurant on AMI, which sits right on the beach. However, if you prefer staying close by, we highly recommend a grocery stop at Detwiler's Farm Market, a casual breakfast at Papi's Place, and savoring a cocktail with your feet in the sand at Whiskey Joe's Bar and Grill. We look forward to future stays at The Surf!
