Last Thanksgiving, we embarked on our winter journey to Florida, deciding to meet family in Disney for a few days along the way. Our excitement grew as we anticipated our stay at the Fort Wilderness resort, having heard that this time of year was quite magical with the enchanting Christmas decorations!
As luck would have it, the weather had other plans, and it was pouring down rain when we arrived. The name "Fort Wilderness" was no exaggeration as we encountered narrow roads with overgrown trees and bushes. As we approached the loop where our site was located, I had to step out of the RV to assess the situation because we were uncertain if we could fit! Nonetheless, we were in the right place, so we carefully maneuvered back to our site. Tree branches stretched over our site, and we were worried about scratching our coach while backing in. Chad was feeling quite stressed out! A grounds attendant came to assist, but there wasn't much that could be done. Chad parked in the most optimal position possible, and we set up. The site left much to be desired. We prefer large, concrete sites with manicured landscaping, and this felt a bit too woodsy for us. Adding to our discomfort, all the dirt around our site turned into a mud pit due to the rain. While I understand it's called Fort Wilderness and that some people love it, we expected it to be a well-kept wilderness, especially since it's Disney after all!
During our stay, we explored the resort by golf cart, and we had to admit, the Christmas décor did not disappoint! We had a great time admiring all the displays. Overall, we enjoyed a rustic family-style dinner at Trail's End restaurant, our nieces had fun mining for rocks, and they got to watch a movie under the stars. We also spent time at Epcot and Hollywood Studios. All in all, it was several days of good quality family time!"
